Once operational, the Jewar Airport will serve the National Capital Region while becoming an alternative airport for the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Jewar Airport construction work started in June 2022 and is still in progress. The airport is expected to be operational on 17th April 2025.

Jewar Airport Get IATA Code ‘DXN’

Global airlines body IATA-International Air Transport Association allotted a three-letter code of Noida Airport- DXN. The airport is being constructed in Jewar, which is near Greater Noida.

Jewar Airport Construction/Development Phases

Jewar Airport construction plan has been divided into four phases. Find the details of these construction phases below.

Phase 1: Phase 1 of the Jewar Airport construction plan includes the development of the Terminal 1 Building, Air Traffic Control System, Cargo Facility, Runway, and metro & high-speed rail stations with a few commercial developments.

Phase 2: Phase 2 of the Noida International Airport construction plan includes the development of Terminal 2 and a parallel taxiway with a new runway.

Phase 3: Noida International Airport Construction Plan Phase 3 covers the construction of Terminal 3 with the second taxiway and three rapid exit taxiways. The construction of 37 additional bays with apron expansion is also the part of Phase 3.

Phase 4: Phase 4 of the Jewar Airport Master Plan includes the construction of Terminal 4 and 3 exit taxiways with the expansion of the cargo terminal.

Noida International Airport – Validation Flight Testing 

Noida International Airport finished conducting its validation flight testing on Monday, December 09, 2024. The validation flight testing was done through an Indigo A320 passenger aircraft. The flight started from Indira Gandhi International Airport and landed at Noida International Airport in Jewar. 

Conducting a validation flight is an important aspect of getting the aerodrome license. The license is crucial as it is a basic step for initiating commercial operations for an Airport.  The Validation flight was designated to verify the airport’s approach to procedures and functionality. It aims to test the accuracy of the navigation aids and traffic control systems. 

After the Validation Flight comes the documentation part that the Noida International Airport will complete with the documentation process and submit it to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The target is to finish the first phase of Jewar Airport by April 2025 and begin operations.

Noida International Airport will be connected to multiple highways in the Delhi National Capital Region including the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Expressway and Ghaziabad-Aligarh-Expressway (National Highway 34). 

• The National Highways Authority of India has also planned to build a highway to connect the Jewar International Airport to Delhi-Mumbai Expressway via Faridabad. 
• Noida International Airport will be connected to Yamuna Expressway in DayanatPur Village in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar.
• The airport will also be connected to KGP Expressway (Eastern Peripheral Expressway) at Mohna Village in Ballabhgarh.
• Jewar International Airport will also be connected to Noida Metro through Greater Noida route.

• The UP Government is also planning to connect Jewar Airport with Delhi via a Monorail Project.
• Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has planned to build India’s first pod taxi service to link the Noida International Airport with Noida Film City. There will be 12 stations on this 14.5 km long route.
• YEIDA has also planned to build two new expressways and a rail link to connect Jewar Airport to Chola Railway Station in Bulandshahr.
• The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is also handling a few other projects connecting Delhi and Hindon Airports with Jewar Airport; however, these projects are in the pipeline. One of them is an 8.2 km long road to the north and east of the road that is expected to be ready in eight; on this road, an amount of Rs 63 crore is spent.     
• For the Rapid Rail-cum-Metro Rail, the detailed project report (DPR) is already completed. The authority is trying to get funds from the government for the same. It is anticipated that it will be completed in two years’ time.
