Jewar Airport or Noida International Airport will be operational in April 2025. It will serve several cities in Uttar Pradesh, including NCR, Agra, Mathura, and others.

Jewar International Airport is also called Noida International Airport. It is one of the upcoming International Airports in Uttar Pradesh. The airport is being constructed in the town named Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. The town is located in the suburbs of Greater Noida near the Northeast bank of the Yamuna River.

Once it opens, Jewar Airport will serve the National Capital Region and act as an alternative to Indira Gandhi International Airport. Construction began in June 2022 and is still ongoing. The airport is expected to be operational on 17th April 2025.

Jewar Airport Gets the IATA Code ‘DXN’

Global airlines body IATA-International Air Transport Association allotted a three-letter code of Noida Airport- DXN. The airport is being constructed in Jewar, which is near Greater Noida.

IATA assigns codes to all the airports for easy identification, which helps prevent ambiguity between countries and cities. The code is featured on passengers’ travel documents and for other communications like flight schedules, ticketing, and baggage handling from one airport to another.

Switzerland’s Zurich airport is building Jewar Airport, bringing together Indian culture and hospitality with Swiss technology. They also plan to create a modern, easy-to-use, and digital airport. The Jewar Airport project was first suggested by the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Rajnath Singh, in 2001. He named the project the Taj International Aviation Hub. Here are some key dates of the Jewar International Airport project.

Jewar Airport: India’s Largest Airport with Six Runways

According to the Jewar Project Report approved by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Noida International Airport will have six runways after it opens and all the planned expansions are finished. The report also mentions adding two more runways later if enough land is available. Jewar International Airport will be India’s largest and the World’s fourth-largest airport, with six runways.

Jewar Airport Construction/Development Phases

The construction of Jewar Airport is planned in four phases. You can find the details of each phase below.

Phase 1: In this phase, Terminal 1 will be built along with the runway, air traffic control system, cargo area, metro, and high-speed rail stations, and some commercial spaces.

Phase 2: In this phase, Terminal 2 will be built along with a new runway and a parallel taxiway.

Phase 3: This phase includes building Terminal 3, a second taxiway, and three quick exit taxiways. It also involves adding 37 more aircraft parking bays and expanding the apron area.

Phase 4: Phase 4 of the Jewar Airport Master Plan includes the construction of Terminal 4 and 3 exit taxiways with the expansion of the cargo terminal.

Noida International Airport – Validation Flight Testing 

Noida International Airport finished conducting its validation flight testing on Monday, December 09, 2024. The validation flight testing was done through an Indigo A320 passenger aircraft. The flight started from Indira Gandhi International Airport and landed at Noida International Airport in Jewar. 

A validation flight is an important step to get the aerodrome license, which is needed to start commercial flights at the airport. This flight checks if the airport’s systems, like navigation and air traffic control, are working properly and safely. 

After the Validation Flight comes the documentation part that the Noida International Airport will complete with the documentation process and submit it to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The target is to finish the first phase of Jewar Airport by April 2025 and begin operations.

Jewar Airport Connectivity

Noida International Airport will be linked to several highways in the Delhi National Capital Region, including the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Expressway and the Ghaziabad-Aligarh Expressway (National Highway 34).  

  • The National Highways Authority of India also plans to construct a highway linking Jewar International Airport to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway through Faridabad. 
  • Noida International Airport will be connected to Yamuna Expressway in Dayanatpur Village in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar.

  • The UP Government is also planning to connect Jewar Airport with Delhi via a Monorail Project.
  • Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has planned to build India’s first pod taxi service to link the Noida International Airport with Noida Film City. There will be 12 stations on this 14.5 km long route.
  • YEIDA also plans to develop two new expressways and a rail link to connect Jewar Airport with Chola Railway Station in Bulandshahr.
  • The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is also handling a few other projects connecting Delhi and Hindon Airports with Jewar Airport; however, these projects are in the pipeline. One of the projects is an 8.2 km long road located to the north and east of the existing route, expected to be completed within eight months. An estimated ₹63 crore is being invested in its construction.     
  • For the Rapid Rail-cum-Metro Rail, the detailed project report (DPR) is already completed. The authority is trying to get funds from the government for the same. It is anticipated that it will be completed in two years.
